We Italians have made it a trademark that arouses embarrassment only to those who – foreign – do not understand its power. With gestures we give words a deeper meaning. New energy to the verbs. To the phrases a soul that goes beyond the sum of the meanings. The voice without a gesture, even imagined, remains cold and distant. The gesture is the search for contact, an extension of a thought.
“I love you” is not enough if there is not the touch of a hand.
A gesture is the discovery, the surprise and the sense of wonder.
Here is a sign language that gives so much emotion to whoever is not deaf and dumb.
It imitates an idea, a need, a desire.
It’s the intention to give a reflection in space.
The gesture can replace a word
and a word without the gesture is not as strong as it would like.
It can not say more than what it seems.
It does not know how to find out what lies beyond.
With the voice you can command and – perhaps – receive a reply.
With a gesture you yourself are the thought and action.
Not to order, but to create a new order.
The gesture likes participation and is inclusive,
it anticipates and reveals meaning at the same time.
Like us, because we are Italians.
