Understand the players who influence the system in which we operate

The Stakeholder Map is a representation of all the stakeholders involved in a project, aimed at clarifying their roles and relationships. This mapping activity helps to identify non-obvious subjects among those who may influence our business or be influenced by our activities. Knowing who has an interest of any kind in our business is the first step to design a successful Value proposition.

Building a common and shared vision of the people we directly or indirectly involve in our project is the first step to identify the value exchanges in the ecosystem

How to use the Stakeholder Map canvas

1. First step

The first step is the identification of stakeholders. What are stakeholders? A stakeholder is anyone who has an interest in the outcome of something, business, project or process. Try to ask yourself these questions: Who is external and who is internal? Who wields power and who wields interest? Who supports and who influences?

2. Second step

Starting from the innermost circle, define the work team that is directly concerned with the implementation of the business, project, service, idea, topic daily.

1. Third step

Gradually identify all the various actors with whom the work team interacts, from inside the company to outside.

2. Fourth step

Define the roles and expectations of the stakeholders you have identified. Stakeholders are not equal to each other: some have the potential to generate a greater impact on the project than others; they have different power of influence and a different level of involvement and interest. Map, list and rank them by placing them on the canvas.
