Desirable Futures are a way to look ahead and make concrete plans for what you want an organisation to achieve. You can use this toolbox to get everyone in your company on the same page and to come up with a shared vision for the kind of future you want to see.
To have a solid foundation in identifying future goals, we recommend first outlining organization's values and its purpose. These make up the basis in the present from which the tension toward the future that motivates people develops. Use the Behaviors and Values Toolbox and the Our Purpose Toolbox to address these subjects.

How to use the Desirable Futures Toolbox
1. First Step
Take the Common Purpose that motivates your organization, your teams and the people within them and place it at the base of the canvas.
2. Second Step
Identify and select from the United Nations' proposed strategic sustainable development goals (SDGs) those that, consistent with your Purpose and values, help shape your organization's Desirable Futures.
3. Third Step
Set a time frame, then analyse and discuss coherent Desirable Futures at different scales (Macro, Meso, Micro). Discuss your considerations taking into account the three macro-areas of the 3 lenses of innovation: Planet (from Desirability) Network (from Feasibility) and Prosperity (from Profitability).
4. Fourth Step
Individually, synthesize the reasoning into a statement that encompasses all the strategic elements you have been working on: from the Common Purpose to personal, team, organizational, and ecosystem Desirable Futures. Use the Statement Canvas for this step. Then compare the results.
